Edith Scammon

Miss Scammon worked in the herbarium that was part of the MCZ. Her building, which was perpendicular to dad’s building, has a wonderful archway built through the entire building to make it so that people didn’t have to walk clear around the building to get out of the quadrangle in the middle. This is Miss Scammon with mom on a dock in Saco.  Dad had no individual photos of her so I use this.  She is no taller than mom, which would put her at 5' 2".  She always wore oxfords and anklets as here.  She didn’t wear bright colors and did wear glasses.
I believe it was our life in Alaska that led to the creation of a long-term relationship, more like a family than professional.  She took us under her wing and remained a constant friend through out our time in Boston, taking us to her family home in Saco, Maine.  A whole section is devoted to her below because of the importance she played in our lives.
