Hes the tall guy in the center back row - pretty serious, but he was known as the class clown, nick-named “Jake”, fact that I just cannot take in. The man I knew was the one with the somber face. But Bud Hegyssey and another lifelong friend told me again and again that he was the class clown. I think that for him, a camera was simply another way of painting. He captured scenes he wanted to remember this way. Most of the photos on this website are his, made starting in the 1930’s until his death in 1998 He didn’t strive for artistic results, although some photos achieved that level, as in this one taken in Brush Creek before it was buried under Stannaker Damn in the 50’s I think it was:
Most of his work was done in 35mm format, starting with an Exacta then going to Olympus. He retired before digital cameras dominated the camera market so he did not use digital cameras. He received some training in using 16mm movie cameras. He bought one camera and took it to Antartica where he recorded some of his work. Those movies may be made available on the Antarctica page. At present they have not even been converted to digital format.
