His life was as remarkable as one would expect from a person with talents and interests beyond the normal. To tell it, links are provided below to the 8 volume family history named “UPHILL BOTH WAYS” which resides on the web at <uphillbothways.org>. The history starts with a thumbnail sketch of his great-grandfather, a Danish emigre, and then his father. It provides detail of his life from birth in 1918, up to 1961, when he left Harvard for BYU. where he worked for 23 years. This website itself constitutes his history from 1961 to 1984 when he retired. The volumes are in chronological order and named for the geographic location where things happened. Because of the extraordinary contribution of his wife to his success, I have included the volume named “Naples, Utah 1923” which tells of her life up to the time they met in Mercur, Utah and married in frontier Alaska in 1941.
