Truck Driver

Wycoff panel truck that he drove round-trip betwen Vernal
and SLC 5 days a week for a year and a half, transporting
mail, movies and miscellanea.
He drove a panel truck from Vernal to Salt Lake City every day for about a year, until he had a near-death experience from going to sleep at the wheel. He carried miscellaneous freight for Wycoff, one of the largest transport companies in the state. Movies, newspapers, mail, small freight items, and so on were dropped off at little stores in villages along the way, creating a night mare as he tried to keep on schedule.  This photo gives you a good sense of what his days were like, only varied by severe snow storms through “Strawberry”, the highest point on the trip.
The most interesting memory of the job was the fight he waged with the Sheriff in Heber city.  The Sheriff was determined to catch JEnsen and put him in jail because he drove through town too fast. The culmination was a very funny situation that dad created to make fools out of the sheriff. He suceeded and infuriated them when he peered out from under his truck, the engine of which was smoking, asking, “Oh, can I help you?!” after they had chased him for 15 miles. They had their day in court and a slick city attorney got him off. I’ll try to find the story and add it. It tells a lot about his opinion of law and order. He was severely conflicted I would say.
