Ultrasauros macintoshi (This is the McIntosh who wrote the Elegy. Dr. McIntosh himself was a gentleman who came to Dry Mesa the summer I was there and he showed as much enthusiasm for the dig as did dad, since Dr. McIntosh was a sauropod specialist. He said later that dad basically doubled the number of known sauropods for the North American continent - or words to that effect.)

Ultrasaurus macintoshi
DESCRIBER Jensen,1985
CLASSIFICATION Saurischia Sauropodomorpha Sauropoda Diplodocidae Diplodocinae
DIET Herbivore
FALL UNDER SUPERSAURUS
INFO
Supersaurus (Jensen,1985) (=Ultrasauros Jensen vide Olshevsky, 1991) > S.vivianae (Jensen,1985) >> Ultrasaurus (Jensen,1985 preoccupied) Ultrasauros macintoshi (Jensen vide Olshevsky, 1991) >> Ultrasaurus macintoshi.(Jensen,1985) Named to indicate that the genus was larger than the "Supersaurus" Jensen had discovered earlier, based on the huge size of its shoulder blade. The name "Ultrasaurus" was used informally for the specimen in both popular and technical literature as early as 1979, but remained a nomen nudum until 1985, when Jensen finally published a formal description. By then, however, the official name Ultrasaurus had been used by Kim for a Korean dinosaur, and Jensen's proposed name was preoccupied.
